Industrial & Hazardous Waste Management Conference 2009, will be held from 11/8/09 to 11/9/09
To reduce their reliance on oil revenues, many GCC countries have embarked on programmes of industrial diversification (AME Info). Multinational companies have invested in the development of petrochemical complexes, fertilizer plants, refineries and chemical plants. These industrial activities are major generators of hazardous waste (GEO 2000, UNEP). In relation with the expected increased development and industrialization, Abu Dhabi Environment Agency (EAD) is expecting a large increase in the generation of wastes, and there is need for more facilities for the treatment and disposal of hazardous waste in particular (Abu Dhabi Environment Strategy, 2008 - 2012).

GCC countries rank in the top 10 of world waste producers with 120 million tons of waste generated per year. (The Gulf Today, July 2008). The UAE and Saudi Arabia produce the most waste, 25% and 54.4% of all industrial waste respectively (Qatar Today). Pollution and escalating costs of hazardous waste management are some of the serious concerns faced by the waste management industry today.

The increasing environmental awareness, and industrial boom are key factors driving the corporate attention towards hazardous waste management as part of their sustainability policies, hence providing enormous opportunities in the Middle East. Know what and where these opportunities are and understand the policies, legislation, monitoring and control for these projects in the Middle East.

Pollution and escalating costs of hazardous waste management are some of the serious concerns faced by the waste management industry today. Get answers to these pressing questions:

This conference will share answers to the pressing questions like:

- What are the latest technological developments and advancements to help combat these problems?
- What are some of the key challenges and problems faced by the industrial sector?
- What is the waste management industry doing to cope with the rapid industralisation leading to more industrial & hazardous waste production?
- What are the trends in Middle Easts waste management?
Also will be discussed the answers to these questions at the Conference as well as successful experiences in the waste minimization and recycling programs. Our panel of specially invited guest speakers will reveal the advances in hazardous industrial waste treatment technologies and compare the differences in industrial waste management practices between USA, Europe and this part of the world, and knowledge that can be transferred.

What are some of the key challenges and problems faced by each of these sectors? What is the waste management industry doing to cope with the ever increasing population, rapid industralisation and urbanisation leading to more waste production?

Hear the answers to these questions at the Conference as well as successful experiences in the waste minimization and recycling programs. Our panel of specially invited guest speakers will reveal the advances in hazardous industrial waste treatment technologies and compare the differences in industrial waste management practices between USA, Europe and this part of the world, and knowledge that can be transferred.
