General Work Experience:
23 years self-employment working in Civil engineering, Building, Land Surveying, and Dimensional Control, for contractors, clients and consultants.
Prior to this I was employed by Sir Robert McAlpine for 7 years working as a junior draughtsman and latterly as a site engineer.
Applicable work experience i.e. Dimensional Control/Survey:
July 2003 - February 2005: I was working on contract in Azerbaijan for Bos Shelf. We were building 6no. jackets for the ACG Full Field Development. Basically I was responsible for all day to day 3D survey work. I carried out all data capture surveys and produced cad aided reports. We had a team of 14 local surveyors and assistants responsible for d.c. throughout the yard.
September 2002 - July 2003: Due to the lack of oil related survey work I returned to the construction industry. Again working on a contract basis, I worked at Edinburgh Airport initially as an engineer but within 4 weeks I ‘assumed’ the title of sub-agent, controlling all plant and labour on the £5m fast-track project to provide 3 cargo plane stands. Following this I worked at Glasgow Airport, a £85M sewerage project in Dundee, an office refurbishment in Edinburgh, and latterly a 100-house development in Granton Edinburgh where I managed all aspects of the construction of the under buildings and roads on the project.
September 2001-August 2002: I worked in Belfast on two ferries plus bridge structures at Harland & Wolff. Originally employed as a dimensional inspector, within 2 weeks I was supplying my own survey equipment and manipulative software producing 3d survey information of shell units. With the assistance of another surveyor we were responsible for all major survey work in the yard including the twin propeller shaft alignments.
