Professional Experience
December 2005-Present Client Representative, GUPCO, Egypt
Working on upgrading and replacing existing infrastructure on interfield lines for BP venture in the Red Sea. Included seabed preparation and subsea pipe cutting and removal, riser removal and replacement, and pipelay.
January 2004-December 2005 Project Engineer, Saipem Jakarta, Indonesia
Working on the Hong Kong Electric Company’s Lamma project, from signature of contract through to start-up commissioning. Offshore (Castoro 10) and onshore (LNG plant in China, power station in HKSAR). Laying a 92km 20” pipeline plus 0.7km future line, with two shore pulls, riser and midline tie-in, pre- and post-trenching and severe environmental and local legislation.
Also assisted with preparation of bids for other potential projects in Asia.
March 2003-January 2004 Project Engineer, Saipem Perth, Australia
Offshore (Semac 1) and onshore (LNG plant) working in the North West Shelf for Woodside’s TSEP (2nd trunkline project). Laying a 135 km 42” pipeline starting from a shore pull to a subsea laydown. The formidable Australian union presence added an extra dimension to the project. Joined project at start of pipelay.
December 2002-March 2003 Installation Engineer, CNOOC, China
Offshore working in the South China Sea for the Chinese state oil company, onboard the laybarge ‘Lan Jiang’, a modern vessel with a 3800 Te crane. Laying a 100 km 22” pipeline starting from a shore pull, to a jacket and subsea riser installation at 75m water depth. Employed to provide assistance to the mainly non-English-speaking crew on safety issues, pipeline installation and to assist the Chinese in adapting to Western pipelay markets.
August 2001-December 2002 Project Engineer, EMC Ltd (Now Saipem UK), London, England
Onshore and offshore working for major pipelay contractor in North Sea market. Worked on two major projects:
December 2001-December 2002 Statoil Mikkel Project, Norwegian Sector
Project engineering for all aspects (engineering, procurement, installation and commissioning) of 40 Km 18” gas and condensate pipeline with one Inline Tee and a 40 Te manifold at either end. Laying in 250m water depth, the manifold size and weight produced many interesting problems that had to be overcome.
Eductation
October 1997-June 2001 MEng in Mechanical Engineering with a year abroad, Imperial College, London
Wide-ranging and respected degree course, covering many disciplines; major projects included CAD design, finite element analysis, gas turbine design and fluid flow modelling. The third year of the course was spent at the Ecole Centrale, Lyon, France.
