OMV PAKISTAN EXPLORATION & PRODUCTION G.m.b.H Intern, Summer 2006

I was assigned with the Drilling Department where I spent two months including a visit to the rig site at Sawan-10 for 2 weeks. Work during the period was mainly focused around the different aspects of operations related to drilling. I learned about all the aspects of drilling reports and the evaluation of reported data from field and worked on different calculations regarding drilling hydraulics, BHA weight, cement, mud volumes, annular velocity, jet velocity, use of Kill sheets etc. Furthermore, at the rig site besides getting an overview of the general operations, I also assisted mud engineers in performing tests for calculating the density, FV, PV, YP, gel strength, retort solids, hardness etc of the drilling mud. In addition to above, I also witnessed a side track operation which was done due to fishing problem to bypass the fish. Moreover, I was also involved in the daily business by attending different technical and selected department meetings and went through different plans, programs and operating and management procedures which were employed during the drilling operations at Sawan-10.

I was assigned with the Production Department where besides being introduced to a number of ongoing activities and study regarding different reports related to drilling, production, completion etc., I also got acquainted with different softwares used by the petroleum engineering department. During the internship period my work was mainly focused around the production optimization using NODAL analysis with the help of PROSPER software. Furthermore, different completions and sand control methods were also studied that were employed in some of the wells.

Visit to SABA WELL 1 during drilling operations (Experienced a Wireline logging survey conducted by Schlumberger to locate the stuck point due to pipe stucking at the site)
