Professional Experience
April 2005 – To Date Head of Operations
Administer and manage the operations of the entire fleet which includes 13 VLCC’S, 9 product tankers, bunker barges and Storage tankers. We also handle operations for our in-chartered Aframax vessels. The job requires good planning and delegation considering the diverse fleet, second hand tonnage and rapid growth of the company.Having joined the Company at a crucial stage of development, I was soon to be involved in other business functions, like Dry-dock/ Budget planning, Pre-purchase/vetting inspections, delivery of vessels, crisis management. My team was responsible for the successful implementation of Global agency outsourcing. My job requires extensive travel to develop customer relations especially in China and I still take the odd opportunity inspecting our ships and getting to know the mariners who are at the fore front of our business.
Aug 2002 – to April 2005 Marine Superintendent
Although my primary function was monitoring and implementing fleet safety, I received wide latitude and gained valuable experience in the various aspects of a well managed shipping Company. I was additionally tasked with bulk purchase and negotiations for all Marine equipment like ECDIS, radars and Ship security alert systems. I was also involved in setting Company standards for purchase and procurement of mooring ropes and wires for the TBW.In addition to various in-house Management courses, I had hands on experience in dealing with major emergencies like hull failure and lightering a VLCC off Durban in winter, Grounding and Ocean salvage off Bahamas during the Hurricane season.
2000-2002 In Command of a 150000 DWT OBO on the critical North Atlantic run. Although vessel was nearly 18 years she was the first vessel to receive the US Qualship 21 award. The experience gained on this vessel culminated with an invitation to work ashore with World-Wide shipping who was the Owner.
1987-2000 After serving as an indentured apprentice with Wallem worked through the various ranks and was promoted to Chief Officer in 1997. The bulk of my service has been on tankers and OBO's with some Dry Bulk and Cargo experience as well in my early years. Experience built up on worldwide trading tankers ranging from new buildings to delivery of vessels for beaching. Extensive experience in West-African tanker load ports.

Master (FG) License and BTECH HND in Nautical Science in 1998.
