Malampaya Deepwater Gas to Power Project
A Joint Venture Project by the Service Contract 38 Consortium (Shell Philippines Exploration, Chevron-Texaco Phils., and PNOC Exploration Corp.) which effectively gave birth to the country’s natural gas industry. Inaugurated in 2001, five gas wells in the northwest offshore sector of Palawan province (Malampaya Sound), capable of producing up to more than 600 MMscf/day of natural gas, supply fuel to three (3) gas-fired power plants in Batangas province (south of Manila in the Luzon Island). A 504-km offshore pipeline conveys the fuel from an offshore production platform to an onshore processing plant in Batangas. The aggregate installed capacity of the power-generating facilities is 2,700 MW.
