I started my offshore career after a 1 month basic rig crew course in Montrose working for a company named Kingsnorth Marine Drilling that changed their name to Houlder Marine Drilling, I worked as a Roustabout taking on various deck duties including relieving roughnecks to gain drill floor experience. I then trained as an assistant crane operator on National cranes, during my time with Houlder marine I worked with several teams on semi submersibles the Dundee Kingsnorth and the Kingsnorth UK which had contracts for B.P. and Conoco. I then joined a company called Atlantic Drilling promoted to crane operator/deck foreman on their new super semi submersible the Benreoch when she entered the north sea for her first contract for B.P/Charterhouse, I then obtained my H.L.O. certificate as it was one of my duties to crew change and refuel mainly Sikorsky helicopters also the supervision and responsibility of up to 6 roustabouts, I loaded/unloaded many supply vessels in rough seas. A crane operator’s licence was not essential at the time as companies where reluctant to put their crane operators on courses for fear of losing them to international contractors. I was sent to one of the companies drill ships the Benlomond, operating in south East Asia as crane operator/deck foreman for 2 years until we sailed to Greece for another contract under our own steam which was a first for any drill ship which took 11 weeks. Shortly after this I returned to the North Sea and joined the company jack up the Benvrackie, operating as a crane operator in the North Sea again. Oil and Gas exploration for many vessels took a sharp decline soon after and redundancies where inevitable, this prompted me to seek work onshore. I am looking for an offshore position suitable to any relevant experience, as I have recently regained my offshore survival (bosiet) and completed an approved UKOOA medical in accordance with the industry guidelines. I intend to complete my sparrows stages 2 & 3 crane operators licences very soon as I can be available within 1 week of notification due to my employers relocating within the first 3 months of 2008.
