Title : Structural & Thermal Analysis of Steam Turbine Casing using Ansys
Description : The Project involves Structural and thermal analysis of steam turbine casing to observe how structural changes in the model affect its stress and displacement. The design of the model was refined based on these observations. Attention was paid at the critical regions where the displacement is high affecting the alignment of the turbine.
• Carried out Hydro Test, Preload, Thermal, Pressure and Combined Stress Analysis on Steam turbine casing using Ansys software.
• Hydro Test- Here the behavior of the casing was studied for pressure 1.5 times the actual working pressure. The test was carried out to check for leaks in the model.
• Preload analysis- Preload was applied to the bolts and the contact area between the flanges was analyzed. The Bolts were pre-stressed to an extent that the contact between the flanges was maintained and the stress level in the flanges is maintained.
• Thermal Analysis- The temperature variation across the casing was taken into consideration. Due to expansion and contraction in the model stress was induced. The stress plot across the model was analyzed.
• Pressure Analysis- The model was exposed to the actual working pressure. The stress plot across the model and its effect on the contact area between the flanges was analyzed.
