The aim of the master thesis was to investigate the effect of pressure transients, generated by full closure of a valve located downstream of a simple pipeline on the flow behavior two-dimensionality by applying two–dimensional axisymmetric navier-stokes equations. The effect linked to flow characteristic on the rapid damping of pressure peaks in water hammer phenomenon is not considered when one-dimensional models are employed. Therefore, by applying a two-dimensional axisymmetric model, useful information on the evolution of the flow characteristic during a transient has been obtained. the study achieved by using one of the well known computational fluid dynamic code(FLUENT).
