- Power Plant operation to be controlled and monitored all the time. Working time consists of three shifts per 24 hours.
- The duty engineer must maintain safe operation for the machinery and to do the routine daily maintenance.
- Inspections and overlooking for the plant area and make sure everything is running normal. Levels to be checked and maintained if it needed to.
- Important Readings & Figures have to be recorded everyday in the engine room data sheet. (engine room log book)
- Safety drills took place weekly to insure that all employees are aware of Emergency situation. (fire drills)
- Safety training course is given periodically to help employees improving their knowledge as they working in dangerous places.
- Fire fighting systems and fire extinguishers to be check periodically.

Marine Engineer Trainee. Serving in oil tanker overseas, 8 months on board ship. Sailing from UAE Dubai to the USA. Loading oil from the Arabian Gulf and discharge it in USA. There were two different trips in two different oil tankers each of which was delivering up to 2 million barrels of crude oil to the US.
As an engineer on board ship, the engine compartment and all auxiliary machineries are to be in fully under supervision by the duty engineer. Maintaining tanks levels. Monitoring engine's performance. Ensure having sufficient lubrication on all systems. Running safety checks daily/weekly. Overhauling machines if we needed to, or sometimes are done periodically, planning and completing job orders.
Fire extinguishing, Rescue, Sea survival and first aid training were practiced onboard ship.
