Career Objective
Employed as a Mechanical and Hydraulic Deck Engineer on board the Sampson. Duties involved the maintenance and repair of pipe laying equipment including winches and stinger, air compressors,1600tn & 100tn lift capacity cranes,Hydro knuckle boom crane.
Professional Experience
I have a wide ranging experience learning my trade from the ground up, this knowledge has enabled me to work in many mechanical and hydraulic fields, initially in the workshop, assembling wellhead equipment, dismantling and rebuilding mainly for the offshore business. During this time, I also went offshore to evaluate necessary repairs, then if cost effective remove equipment and upon rebuild return it to the rig or ship for commissioning in a supervisory role.
To further increase my offshore experience I started my own company which enabled me to gain further skills, by contracting to various companies on both oil rigs and vessels, dismantling and modifying equipment, in particular used in the decommissioning of rigs using ROV mounted tools. During this time I was also contracted to a pipeline trenching plough and carousel offloading vessel which required constant maintenance and modification.
I was offered a permanent position on a vessel, which again enhanced my skills and ability to learn quickly in this new position which included heavy lift cranes, davits and winches. Following this I gained a long term contract on a much larger heavy lift vessel being newly converted, with the addition of a pipe laying system which operates on hydraulic, mechanical and electrical components, all of which I am responsible to maintain and repair as necessary, as part of an on board maintenance team now it has been commissioned. Whilst on a contract it is sometimes necessary to machine and adapt spares from available materials using welding equipment and lathes on board. Responsible for ordering spares for the various deck equipment to ensure as far as possible the smooth running of a contract.
