Exploration/Business Development/General Manager

I am interested in leadership roles or short term project work in Exploration, Business Development or General Management of E&P projects and I am globally mobile at this time as my children have all graduated from high school.

I have 25 years industry experience in petroleum exploration and production, including 11 years in management of exploration, business development and production activities. Most recently I have held a General Manager position with responsibility for producing oil and gas fields, further development of those fields, assessment of business development opportunities, exploration in the asset catchment areas and marketing of the products (oil, pipeline gas, condensate and LPGs). Responsibilities have included joint venture management, government relations, preparation of Board business proposals, coordination of multidisciplinary teams containing engineers (surface, subsea, subsurface), geoscientists (geologists and geophysicists), economists, marketers, finance and legal staff. Bottom line delivery of business outcomes in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner was essential in this role.

I have recently left Woodside Petroleum Ltd, Australia's largest pure oil and gas corporation, after 23 years with the company working my way up from a technical role in exploration to a General Manager position. I have gained exposure to oil, gas and LNG projects; exploration and development; operated and nonoperated ventures; portfolio management and business development (farmin, lease round and acquisition opportunities). Geographically, I have personally worked on most Australian basins, and also on Papua New Guinea, USA, Libya and Algeria projects, plus I have peer reviewed exploration and new business proposals from South East Asia, the Middle East and West Africa.

My achievements include finding the Wanaea and Cossack oil fields (the first commercial oil fields on Australia's North West Shelf, which have now produced over 350 million barrels; together with one other geoscientist we proposed to drill these prospects and named one each) and successfully bidding on and being awarded four exploration blocks in Libya's first offshore licensing round (three of four were won by a narrow margin from the second bidders after I had personally recommended the bid level). I also spent three years coordinating career development for a pool of over one hundred geoscientists.

My university qualifications consist of a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours in Geology from the University of Western Australia and a Doctor of Philosophy in Geology from Stanford University.
