Employed by GSI on a short term contract to project manage the ABRC01 Gas Compression Project on behalf of MAERSK OIL QATAR. The project consisted of two identical compressor units driven by a Waukesha engine, coupled with an Ariel compressor to be utilized 70 Km offshore Qatar. I was totally responsible for this project and my main duties were as follows:
- Defining the Project Schedule, in line with GSI and customer expectations and ensuring the smooth implementation of the project.
- Defining the I&TP for the total project and ensuring all aspects were adhered to through third party inspection.
- Ensuring that all resources were made available in order to carry out the project in a timely fashion.
- Procurement of all materials including skids, vessels, valves, instrumentation etc. I was also totally responsible for the cost negotiations with the sub contractors.
- To provide support and tasking direction to the project technicians and sub contractors. This support consisted of forecasting, planning, risk identification and change orders too name a few.
- To continually monitor the entire project and identify opportunities that not only would improve the project financial results but also the project schedule.
- To work closely with the customers project management team to coordinate major milestones and resolve any schedule issues.
- To monitor financial performance on a weekly basis and review budget versus actual across the project deck.
- To ensure all electrical items and the UCP were suitable for Zone 2 Class 1 Div 2 standard.
- To arrange weekly review meetings with operations to ensure the project stayed on schedule.
- To ensure that all operations were carried out to the HSE requirements.
The project came in on time and under budget. During the project, I agreed with the customer to undertake further work, outside the scope of the contract, which gained GSI further revenue. This work included the procurement and manufacture of 2 base skids and all lifting equipment required for a safe and hassle free logistical operation.
