Professional Experience
Accountable to the Managing Director of Essar Steel Caribbean Limited and Senior Vice President (HS&E) International, Bombay for the development and implementation of comprehensive Health, Safety and Environment Policies for all phases of the US$2.3 b project.
Provide advice and guidance to ensure full compliance with national and international industry standards and requirements/legislation in the areas of HS&E management in the best interest of the company and its employees.
Oversight for iron-ore mining projects in Guyana and Suriname.
The Position:
Develop, implement and manage HS&E policies, procedures, programmes and plans for the construction and production phases of the project. This included ensuring compliance by company and contractor employees.
Develop the department’s organizational structure consistent with the company’s business strategies and the selection, recruitment and management of employees.
Lead the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative to ensure that stakeholder engagement strategies and activities achieved the established targets.
Develop the department’s annual budget, with accountability for the disbursement and management of allocated funds.
Provide leadership and management of the staff complement at the local office to ensure that workplace diversity served to strengthen team performance and productivity.
Conduct meetings with representatives of large international financial institutions during their “Due Diligence Exercises” related to adherence to standards by the International Finance Corporation (IFC).
Participate on the company’s negotiating team involved in the procurement of statutory approvals and negotiated contracts as pre-requisites to the project.
Chiefly responsible for all activities associated with the procurement of a Certificate of Environmental Clearance (CEC) for all phases of the project related to the construction of the integrated iron and steel manufacturing plant at the 194Ha. facility.
