Sep 2006 – Apr 2009: Drilling Engineer – Schlumberger
Charged with the responsibility for Engineering and Generating Directional Drilling Programs for the Offshore team. The Directional Programs comprises of Bottom Hole Assemblies, Surveying Programs, Hydraulic Simulations, Torque and Drag Simulations and any Drilling Recommendations.
Some of my other duties included on shore support for MWD/Directional Drillers on site, QA/QC of Wellbore Surveys, Survey Management of Legacy data and also anti-collision monitoring for high risk wells. The job requirements also involved in preparation of Tenders and the responsibility for client visits and attending morning meetings for any engineering support that the client might desire. One of the other services offered was Rig Sizing. Some of my clients included British Gas, EOG Resources, BHP Billiton, Petrotrin, Trinmar, Repsol YPF, Talisman, Canadian Superior, Kerr McGee, Petro-Canada, Primera, Ten Degrees North, Trinidad Exploration and Development.
Aug 2003 – Aug 2006: Trainee Drilling Engineer – Petrotrin
Trinmar Operations/LNE Santa Flora
Work at Trinmar and Petrotrin included mainly Offshore and Land Rig duties (Todco 110, Rig #1, Rig #4, and Rig #20). The first year of training involved working alongside the Floormen, Derrickman, Driller and the Mud Engineer, spending 3 months with each person.
The second year involved working alongside the Rig Supervisor and generating a 5-Day forecast spreadsheet for Drilling operations, Personnel Movement and Vessel and Equipment Movement, Casing Tallys, Bit Grading, Trip Sheets and Daily Reports. During this period an appreciation for well control and all of the equipment incorporated with it.
The third year involved working alongside the Drilling Engineer being responsible for the generation of the Drilling Programs, including the development of directional plans for wells up to 2000 ft TVD. In addition an appreciation for the estimation of pore pressures utilizing electric log data from offset wells, along with empirical data was developed.
