Professional Experience
BP Process Engineer secondment into Hydrogen Energy, Reading/Weybridge Oct 2008
• Process Engineering technical assurance for design contractor’s Vessel Datasheets, P&IDs, Heat Exchanger ratings, PSV sizing, Flare & Vent Summaries, Heat and Mass Balances, Material Selection Diagrams and Cause & Effect Diagrams.
• Contribution to P&ID Review and HAZOP for the entire process, on occasion being Hydrogen Energy’s only representation in HAZOP.
• Sole responsibility for the checking of Heat Exchanger ratings, using HTRI. Identified design changes with CAPEX saving of $1.7m.
BP Process Engineer at Sullom Voe Oil Terminal, Shetland Sep 2007 - Oct 2008
• Technical process engineering position on an onshore oil terminal.
• SPA for the replacement of a chemical injection pump, a minor mod with a net present value of approx $1m. Challenged the existing design and sizing basis of the pump, resulting in an additional $40k/yr OPEX saving by using a triple-headed pump.
• Sole responsibility for day-to-day monitoring of the plant’s Operating Envelope. By keeping Operations closely involved, three major integrity risks, were flagged up well ahead of causing equipment damage. Took responsibility for all actions required to address these excursions.
• Responsibility for providing process engineering input into Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) process. By engaging with operators in advance of the review meeting, and actively extending my technical knowledge into the subjects of corrosion and inspection, I was trusted to be the sole BP representative for Sullom Voe’s RBI as well as the RBI for their gas plant project. Developed a deep understanding of inspection, corrosion and materials.
• Exceeded team target for safety and integrity audits and demonstrated leadership in safety behaviours by extending the scope of the audits performed on site from the standard housekeeping, personal safety and integrity audits to include Operating Enevelope audits and Locked Valve audits.
BP Flow Assurance Engineer in Central Technology Group, Sunbury Sep 2006-2007
• Optimised the blowdown sequence of six gas wells to save 2 hours from a 12 hour procedure. As this was on the critical path for the North Sea’s Andrew platform’s TAR, this saved the platform 2 hours (approx $100k) of production with $4.5k manhour expenditure (15 hours).
