Professional Experience
During my time on the mines I was exposed to the overhauling of underground machinery, Water treatment Plant, Compressors and Boilers. At Sappi Tugela, as Foreman, I had the following plants under my supervision: Copeland Reactor, NSSC Evaporators, NSSC Cooking Liquor Plant, HP & LP Steam Systems, Pulp and Liquor pipe lines, Continuous Digester ( NSSC ), Pulp Washing Plant and auxiliary equipment. The equipment I were exposed to are Pressure Vessels, Refiners, Pumps, Gearboxes, Agitators, Conveying Systems, Hydraulic Systems, Reactor, Steam driven Turbine, Blowers, Presses, Evaporators, Wash Filters, Cooling Towers and Statutory tasks pertaining to safety, health and occupation of all personnel. In addition the maintenance of all auxiliary equipment such as the piping, support structure and stairways.
I was promoted to the position of Senior Technician in April 2003, in the Projects Department. The scope of work involved the re-engineering, upgrade and cost saving of various equipment in the Paper as well as the Pulp industry.
In June of 2004 I was again promoted to the position of Contracts Supervisor. This entails the overseeing of the permanent contractors ( we have six contractors totaling about 140 people ), in the Mill, on a managerial level as far as safety, costing, performance, standards and legal requirements are concerned. I am also responsible for the maintenance of the overhead cranes ( 52 in total ); the Transportation Department; the Road and Rail systems in the Mill; the Blasting and Painting of all structures and the Fabrication Workshop.

Position Contracts Manager Contracts and Services Department
Present Company Sappi Kraft Tugela, Mandeni (Pulp & Paper Mill)
Responsibilities Arrange and Plan with Production and Maintenance departments for Plant and crane shutdowns on different sections.
Manage four Contracting Companies on site, employing 150 people (welders, boilermakers, pipe fitters, crane technicians, scaffold builders, insulators, painters, rail line builders and civil personnel.)
Liaise on a managerial level with Contractor Management as far as safety, costing, performance, standards and legal requirements are concerned.
Maintain and upgrade all cranes, rail line and road systems.
Set goals and standards of conduct against measurements criteria to ensure maximum performance of Contracting Companies.
Estimating of yearly maintenance budgets and all predicted replacements needed for the next five years.
Continuously monitors, upholds, evaluates, and revises best operating practices, QCPs and drawings / diagrams of work performed within Contractors scope.
