SA Navy – Operational Diving Team
Chief Petty Officer in Charge Action Damage Section
• Key responsibility was to maintain the SA Navy salvage capabilities.
• Co-ordination of all salvage projects – equipment, personnel requirements, transport, accommodation and budgeting.
• Co-ordinated, liaised and planned all diving requirements by Air force, Army and foreign navy’s.
• Co-ordinated and liaised all diving requirements for SAPS, Scorpions and Marine and Coastal Management.
• Budgeting in terms of equipment requirements for division.
• Ensure serviceability of all equipment and vehicles including outsourcing arrangements as required.
• In this position, I had at any one time 15 staff members reporting to me and I was responsible for their welfare and career development, including discipline, promotions and annual assessments.
• The position also involved liaison with high profile individuals in terms of security arrangements when required.
• I left the SA Navy in search of new challenges and career opportunities.
