Logistics Operational Excellence / Health Environment & Safety Specialist: South Africa & West Africa

fulfilling a key role as HES Consultant to Terminal Management on operational, capital project and change management responsibility for six terminal operations located in Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth, East London, Durban and Swaziland, Nigeria, Cameroun, Ivory Coast, Togo, Benin and Congo.

Drives all OE related activities encompassing all facets of the business; due to the nature of the programme this requires a wide understanding of the commercial, technical, regulatory and operational realities of running a $ multi-million business, in a competitive market.

Effectively providing HES guidance to the Terminal Management as part of each site's 'Power Team', providing input to a broad range of issues such as capital-project risk assessments, licensing compliance, quality reviews, loss prevention, site safety, training, contractor HSE management, etc.

Managing ongoing HES compliance and auditing of facilities; providing feedback reports, detailed non-conformance data, gap assessments, remediation planning and implementation tracking.

Successfully developing local strategic objectives, inline with corporate goals, and planning for compliance implementation, corrective actions, and monitoring progress.

Lead individual for managing site and contractor safety, duties including developing permit systems, auditing work plans, ensuring ongoing compliance, risk management and incident investigation.

Loss Prevention Consultant – Africa / Pakistan (Apr 05 – Oct 05); selected as a core team member on the roll out a strategic LPS (Behaviour Based Safety System) programme across the region and as the in-country subject matter expert:

- Played a key role in developing the objectives, tenets and performance measures required to implement the Operational Excellence project, along with global standard operational work practices.

Qualifications & Training

Currently studying for a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) with the Business School of the Netherlands - due to be completed during 2009

Selected Achievements

Played a key role in developing, implementing and managing a wide ranging Operational Excellence programme, across multiple country operations, managing the creation, roll-out and monitoring of best-in-class standards.
Held full responsibility for all Health, Environmental and Safety matters for multiple operations, as a member of the senior operational team, involving: strategic planning; managing change; training staff at all levels.

Successfully achieved remarkable reductions in terms of Employee and Contractor incident levels through a process of educating staff, from senior management down, in terms of world-class safe working practices; additionally delivered a Loss Prevention System (LPS) project across the AFPK region.

Demonstrable experience of managing complex change programs, with a focus on the effects of alterations in work practices across all levels of the business; proven ability of developing training materials, delivering sessions, measuring fluency and creating ongoing performance measures.

Successfully coordinated the Terminal Power Teams (including Terminal Managers & Facility Engineers) to achieve set objective in Terminal Project management, Distribution, Risk Management, Fleet Optimization Operating and Capital expenditure.

Consistently delivered in sales volume and receivable as a Salesman. Revived a dead area and improved on sales profitability by increasing the customer base and sustaining major accounts.
