Additional Information
Developed simplified version of The Volumetric Method. This simplified method does not involve the use of a calculator or any associated computations. This method is applicable for the situation in which the drill bit is on bottom and there is pressure communication between the drill pipe and casing. The proper implementation of this procedure allows the operator's representative to safely bring an influx to the surface without the ability to pump or otherwise circulate well bore fluids. This method has been tested successfully on drilling simulators on a variety of different scenarios, on numerous occasions. In the implementation of the method, an operations window is constructed midway between the shut-in casing pressure value and the integrity pressure value. An operating window of 100 psi is commonly used. When the casing pressure reaches the upper limit of the operating window, then the casing pressure is bled down 100 psi to the lower limit. Then the choke is closed. This procedure is repeated until the influx reaches the surface.
