Professional Experience
NU-IRON UNLIMITED (AUGUST 2007)
I was part of a team that was assigned to do research on the product direct reduced iron (DRI). The objective was to identify where in the process moisture was penetrating the DRI. This was done by strategically collecting samples and performing moisture, hydrogen and reactivity tests on them. The main reason for this research was to make shipping of this product safer thus we also simulated the hull of a ship by using a barrel to store the DRI over a period of time and test for various gases. I was part of a team that took a plant walk to help clean up the plant and also identify potential near miss and safety hazards. On my stay at Nu-Iron, I learnt about the MIDREX process and was exposed to certain units like the furnace and the reformer.
INDUSTRIAL PLANT SERVICES LIMITED (MAY 2007-SEPTEMBER 2007)
Worked as a Process Engineering Trainee on the M1, M3 and M4 plants. I was assigned with the tasks of performing a heat exchanger survey, a demineralization plant audit, a pump survey and a water balance on the M1 plant. I was also exposed to distillation units, cooling towers and compressors. I also completed the safety computer based training that was supplied by the company. I also assisted in performing a reformer survey on the M4 Plant. I also assisted in plant walks on a weekly basis.
