Career Objective
To carry on developing my GIS skills and to also learn management techniques in order to develop my career.
Professional Experience
WebGIS: I’m currently helping to implement Cadcorp’s GeognoSIS webGIS which will replace our previous Cadcorp Map Reader application. The project has allowed me to understand publishing maps and data into an online environment and the solutions that are needed to make sure access to data is quick and easy. The application gives users across the Fire Service access to the latest mapping, incident data and a range of information layers such as Census and deprivation indices.
FireMet: I have worked closely with Cadcorp to develop an application that is used within Control when dealing with Hazardous Material incidents. Users have access to the latest weather conditions such as wind speed and direction via the FireMet website and they can then assess the situation by using a number of different data layers within the application. The user can quickly construct a plan such as which type of Fire Engine to deploy, what is the safest route, and if the surrounding area needs to be evacuated.
CBRN: Due to the increasingly important role of resilience in the UK, I have recently been part of a team working alongside the Police that has developed the Nottingham City CBRN Evacuation Plans (Chemical, Biological, Radiological or Nuclear).
Address Gazetteer: An ongoing project is keeping the address gazetteer as up to date as possible. This project is essential as it is the foundation for receiving calls from the public when responding to a 999 call. As well as updating the gazetteer on a daily basis, other sources of address data are analysed to see if they are fit for purpose inside the Control room, thus ensuring the gazetteer will be as accurate as possible and improving response times.
Skilled in GIS Analysis, Data Analysis, Communication and individual/team work.

Additional Information
In my spare time my main interests are in sport and music. I am an extremely active person and as well as cycling to work, enjoy participating in a number of sporting activities, especially football and squash. I am a member of a local squash league and play to a high standard and I also organise and participate in the weekly 5-a-side football matches at work. I come from a musical family which has rubbed off in a number of ways. I have played several instruments including the trumpet and the guitar and enjoy listening to live music. I try to attend at least one festival a year and watch my cousins’ band whenever possible.
