Jan Botes is a Senior IT specialist with 20+ years of IT experience in a broad range of disciplines from application development to strategic consulting and project management. He has been working with Middle-Eastern, African and South African organizations to address their business challenges for the past 15 years. He has successfully completed various engagements spanning Business Process Re-engineering & Simulation, e-Business, e-Government, Supply Chain Management, IT Strategy & Architecture, IT Governance, Organization Design, Mergers & Acquisitions, IT Service Delivery Management, and IT Process Design. He has 15+ years of oil and process sector consulting and programme management experience.
In 2007, he successfully completed the foundation phase of project managing a high availability IBM mainframe environment in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia for the Ministry of Interior (MOI).
Whilst at MOI, apart from IT Operations, he managed the Strategic IT projects. This required the establishment of a programme office with all the related governance processes based on ITIL, Cobit, PMP and Prince2.
From 2005 until the end of 2006 he was with the Saudi Aramco Finance Organization where he focused on business process reengineering/modelling and overall programme management during their Finance Transformation Initiative. The programme followed a structured approach to define business cases and applying sound project management principles. The effect of the programme resulted in substantial savings for Saudi Aramco.
Prior to working with Saudi Aramco, he was a Senior Consultant in South Africa with the IBM Consulting Group (now IBM Business Consulting Services BCS) for 8 years. He successfully completed IBM consultant certification in 1998 in the Strategy & Change and IT Process Management (IBM PRM-IT and ITIL) service offerings. His primary area of responsibility was to lead consulting teams in the Process Petroleum Industry sector together with Local Government to a lesser extent. Secondary he was the IT Process and IT Strategy competency leader in Southern Africa, Kenya and Nigeria.
