Professional Experience
Joined ONGC,in 1980 and gained experience in well site operations, P &DG and work-over operations. In 1986 I was transferred to Baroda Regional office,to set up a new source rock geology laboratory to provide geochemical/ geological support. In 1990, I was transferred to KDMIPE, Dehradun and joined the basin analysis team of Cambay Basin. In 1994 I took charge of the Basin modeling group of KDMIPE and successfully completed model for ‘Anklesvar-Surat Tract’ area. In 1998 I joined Kuwait Oil Company and developed a geochemistry team to support exploration in Kuwait. I mentored two young geochemists who successfully completed their masters degree (one from IFP, France and the other from New Castle Upon tyne UK). Further, I also planned and monitored development of a ‘Thermal model and ‘3-D Basin model’ of Kuwait. I introduced the idea of the presence of a Paleozoic source rock in Kuwait and thereby successfully established Kuwait in the world gas map.
I was involved in a major project to identify genesis of H2S in Burgan field.
While working in Kuwait I developed a new concept of pseudo-source rock in the regional basins. Subsequently, from 2005 to 2009, I worked for Petronas Carigali as a Basin Modeler/Geochemist.
Here I developed a basin model for Tablas Sub Basin, Philippines. I completed 1D and 2D models for Sayun-Masila basin,Yemen, to identify possible migration of hydrocarbons in an exploratory block of Petronas. Results showed no migration and this has been confirmed by subsequent FIS study and authorities decided not to continue further exploration in this block. Carried out 2D model and a 3D model for CPOC area in the Malay Basin. In this period I also carried out Source rock evaluation of Layun-Dhakla area, Morocco, developed a 3D model for deep offshore Sarawak area and provided complete geochemistry and 2D model support for basement discovery in Anding Utara in Peninsular Malaysia. More recently, I carried out a 3D model for Zambezi Delta, Mozambique and a Charge Distribution model using Petrocharge Express for J-4 Field, Sarawak area for further development. This Charge Distribution model provided successful results upon drilling.
Eductation
Masters degree in Applied Geology from Indian School of Mines (1979)and Master degree in Engineering Geology from the same institute in 1980 and also obtained 'Doctor of Philosophy' in 1985 based on the work entitled 'Geochemical and Petrological aspects of spontaneous combustibility of selected Indian coals'
Certification
I have been certified as the 'Associate Member of the Institution of Chemists'
