Career Objective
Drilling Fluids Engineer
Professional Experience
Over the last three years I have spent over 1000 hours in the laboratory and hope to continue working in a scientific environment. Modules in the three core aspects of chemistry, Organic, Inorganic and Physical, were studied throughout my time at university. During my second and third years at university I chose to tailor my degree toward Organic, Polymer and Environmental chemistry by choosing optional modules including Environmental Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry and Materials chemistry. This gave me a wide knowledge of polymer properties and synthesis. I chose these modules because I found them to be the most interesting and commercially relevant areas of chemistry and, ideally, I would like to pursue a career strongly linked to these topics.
During my lab time I gained knowledge of a wide range of synthesis and analysis techniques. I am very confident in the use of IR and NMR spectroscopy, column chromatography, AFM, SEM and can analyse data from powder and single crystal XRD.
My third year practical work consisted of three 6-8 week experiments. These consisted of:
• Synthesis and detailed analysis of a number of zeolites and MCMs
• Synthesis of TADDOL
• Computer modelling of quinone bond strengths using various molecules and techniques.
Eductation
Between 2007 and 2010 I attended the University of Manchester studying for a B.Sc. in Chemistry. I graduated in 2010 with a 2.2.
Additional Information
• I am passionate about rugby and have played since the age of five for club, school and university teams. I was captain of the First XV College Rugby team and I believe that playing the sport has greatly developed my work ethic, leadership skills and competitiveness.
• I spent three years in the Air Training Corp, 1026 Ormskirk Squadron. The ATC gave me the chance to develop a wide range of skills as well as offering me the opportunity to gain my Bronze and Silver Duke of Edinburgh awards.
• I hold a full UK drivers licence with no penalty points.
• I am confident, highly motivated and friendly. I have enjoyed my last three years at university and look forward to a challenging new job as part of a team of interesting and hard-working colleagues.
• Ideally, I would love a job that allowed me to travel.
