Professional Experience
Assembled a team of credible aviation associates at Northpoint Aviation Services including Cranfield University, who each brings different potential new business conversations.
Took a small Inverness air operator from £400,000 annual t/o to £11,000,000 t/o between 1997 & 2009.
Pioneered completely new markets for the company – airfreight, public subsidised scheduled passenger services, won contracts with Bae Systems and Babcock Naval, won aerial reconnaissance contract from Scottish Executive for Scottish Fisheries Protection Agency, won oil and gas charter work in Aberdeen. Most of these contracts would have been in the range £1 - £1.5m annualised turnover.
Built the Highland Airways brand into a well-respected regional operator. Acted as the spokesman and ambassador for the airline. This included networking with public representatives MPs, MSPs and councilors, civil servants, industry and business association leaders and liaising with our customers. It also included dealing with the TV, radio and press.
Acted as the wordsmith, bard and diplomat for the company in the writing of credential and corporate materials including the company vision, mission, values, business plans and company policies. He was editor of the North Magazine for two years, and eventually produced their own inflight magazine
Cultivated the in-house customer-facing skills required to run scheduled air services which included website, online booking engine, call centre(s) – bilingual, passenger policies and procedures, a customer service function and managing the ground handling function. Coincidentally and alongside other duties also managed an airport information desk for three years.
