Professional Experience
Astra Engineering, Naples, Italy 2008
Internship
I worked with a team of engineers involved in the project design of an offshore oil platform in cooperation with Fincantieri. Although the internship didn’t last for a long time, the work load was intense due to tight schedules and close delivery dates. The experience strengthened team work capabilities and ability to focus on projects even in intense stress situations.
I was responsible for inventory lists and organization into pallets for the various sections of the building site. videoscope inspections, and analyzed results for building stack sample lines as required by the new federal radioactive air emissions standards under the National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), 40 CFR 61, Subpart H.
• Performed various carpentry design work with AutoCAD;
• Drew up inventory lists for ordering of materials;
• Organized the inventory into pallets according to the various sections of the building site to maximize production efficiency and speed;
• Checked various sections of pipelines for errors or incongruence.

“Series 60 hull design and relative engine power estimate ”: Worked in a group of three students and a faculty advisor to design and produce overall plans for a “series 60” hull of given displacement and calculation of engine power for a desired cruise speed. The project was spread over 3 courses and involved choosing the propeller to best fit the hull design. The final step was laboratory work in the university’s towing tank, where the hull was tested both on its own and with a stock propeller.
Rudder design using autocad software, with relevant calculations for the power nedded for maneuvering.
