Employment History
Barratt Homes Manchester (self employed) August 2007 September 2009
Joiner
Key Responsibilities and Achievements:
Liaising with site managers, organising the work needed to be started and completed.
Logistics, I had to fit in the work I was doing with the other trades on site.
Worked well under pressure if a deadline was tight and the job had to be done.
One of the biggest achievements was being part of a team who built a roof for a seven story block of flats. The project was especially difficult due to poor drawings and the all the roof trusses were too big therefore had to be cut down to size. This was made very tricky because the trusses were especially large, some being more than a quarter of a tonne in weight.
In charge of all my own accounts. Had to submit a tax self assessment for each tax year.
Premier Site Solutions (self employed)
August 2007 - August 2009, January 2009- July 2009 (got taken back on after being laid off)
Safety Swaledecker
Key Responsibilities and Achievements:
To erect and disassemble Swaledecking in a safe manner.
Make sure the Swaledecking was erected to safety standards and therefore safe for tradesmen to use and work off.
Worked well under pressure if the job needed doing quickly for other trades to get on with their job, eg. Bricklayers on their next lift.
Liaise with site managers as to which plots need Swaledecking erecting.
Logistics, liaise with lorry drivers to pick up and send Swaledecking equipment to other sites that needed it.
My best achievement was erecting the most Swaledeck platforms in one day breaking my own record for earnings in one day.
In charge of all my own accounts. Had to submit a tax self assessment for each tax year.
Lancaster Rugby Union Club Chairman

One of my most satisfying achievements was where I went travelling to Fiji and Australia for two months in 2008. I was able to experience many knew things and learn from what I saw or did.
One particularly good experience was where I was able to stay on a Fijian Island for two weeks. The Island was a documentary on the BBCs Paradise or Bust. The idea of it is to work and live alongside the native Fijians benefitting the locals through job and yourself through experiencing the island. It was One hour away from the mainland by boat, and the ethos on the island was to keep as sustainable as possible. We tended to the crops and to the animals, there was very little food brought to the island. I was able to go spear fishing every day, build traditional Fijian houses and be fully immersed in their culture.
