Mechanical Technician

I have just completed my 4th and final year as an OPITO Mechanical Technician Apprentice and am now a fully qualified and time served Mechanical Technician.

Since September 2010 I’ve been working with BP’s Mechanical Maintenance team at the Sullom Voe Oil Terminal. Our role is to carry out maintenance on a large variety of mechanical plant by carrying out tasks such as job planning and preparation, routine servicing of systems and components, diagnosing and rectifying faults as well as dismantling, testing and inspecting equipment. Whilst performing these tasks safety is always paramount and I ensure that I adhere to the site safety standards and work expectations at all times. Whilst on site I often have to liaise and co-operate with other trades and staff members, which requires my good communication skills and ability to work with others. I also strive to glean as much knowledge and experience from more experienced Technicians as I possibly can. I am trained in the use of Maximo and often use it in conjunction with maintenance manuals to order spares and tools from the stores. I am also familiar with other applications such as BP’s COSHHnet and the SVT links section which I use to find critical drawings such as P&IDs.
