Studies on Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms

Studies on Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilms assume significance since they have been known to affect process economics in (oil and gas/ petrochemical) industries due to fouling of reactors and pipelines. This is due to reduced heat transfer rate and biocorrosion of pipelines. Hence there is a need to study the factors that are crucial for biofilm formation. The following objectives were completed as part of the study on biofilms.

Evaluated the effect of material surface roughness on adhesiveness of biofilm using Atomic Force Microscopy.
Evaluated the effect of surface modification (using silver and copper nanoparticles) on adhesiveness of biofilm.
Evaluated the effect of temperature on formation and adhesiveness of biofilm.
Evaluated the effect of calcium and magnesium palmitate on formation and adhesiveness of biofilm.

Studies on Extractive Fermentation of Esterase from Bacillus sp. using Aqueous Two Phase Systems

Studies involving the use of Aqueous Two Phase Systems assume significance since they help overcome problems like product inhibition and product reutilization. Aqueous Two Phase Systems have been used for the extractive fermentation of compounds like lactic acid (which finds applications in chemical/petrochemical industries).

The following objectives were completed as part of the study on Aqueous Two Phase systems.

Evaluated of the effect of pH and temperature on the binodal curve
Evaluated the effect of phase forming polymers on the yield of product.
Optimized the composition of Aqueous Two Phase System for purification of fermentation product.
