Electrical Apprenticeship

I began and completed my apprenticeship with G.P. Electric. This included all electrical work from metal/plastic containment, working with other trades, working to a high standard, wiring various electrical systems, working in confined spaces, inspection and testing, fault finding.


August 2009 – June 2010, SBM Offshore Contractors, Abu Dhabi
Electrical Commissioning Technician

I was involved in the commissioning of the Deep Panuke Jack-Up Gas Compression Rig. This was built and commissioned in Abu Dhabi. My duties were to commission the accommodation module lighting and small power, which consisted of testing multiple distribution boards for accommodation billets, galley, laundry, HVAC room, hospital and helideck. My responsibilities included the testing of all outgoing circuits from the distribution boards to ensure that no faults or short circuits were present. After all relevant circuits tests had tested positive, the results were inserted into the ‘B’ ITR’s (Inspection and Test Results). This ensured that all work was completed in accordance with the specification and company safety policy. For this position I hold a certificate/reference from SBM Offshore Contractors.

Electrical Contractor

I am an independent electrical contractor. This has involved dealing with suppliers and consumers directly.

- Industrial Electrician with Cordell. Cordell were working on behalf of Pentagon Chemical Specialties at Pentagon Petro-Chemical Plant, Workington, Cumbria. This contract entailed COMPEX installations throughout the working plant, hazardous area installations, intrinsically safe circuits, various metal containment, Ex accessories and equipment, instrumentation, COMPEX inspections, permits to work, working around site operatives and working to strict health and safety rules.

- Industrial Electrician with Hertel. Hertel were working on behalf of ConocoPhillips in Aberdeen. This position was working on an accommodation block for an offshore installation. During this I gained experience in oil and gas industry, COMPEX installations, metal containment, Ex accessories, SWA glands, wiring electrical systems, working independently, permits to work, working under an electrical foreman and working to strict health and safety rules.
