Career Objective
An MSc petroleum geoscientist graduate proficient with basin analysis/modelling, reservoir modelling, seismic interpretation, petrophysics and a year of experience working as a geo-environmental engineer.
Professional Experience
July 2012 to June 2013
Graduate Geo-Environmental Engineer
GeoDyne Ltd
Nottingham and Derby
This role mainly encompassed the compilation of professional client reports and the planning and management of on-site geotechnical projects both as an individual and as a team member. Examples of personal duties included:
• The compilation of phase I desk study reports to strict deadlines for a variety of clients.
• Undertaking site walkovers, noting and photographing the nature of the site and creating an awareness of any potential hazards.
• Managing time effectively to ensure accurate acquisition of geological, historical and sensitive site information.
• The supervision, instruction and co-operation with subcontracted personnel (including drillers, utility scanners, geotechnicians, ecologists etc).
• Logging, sampling and collating materials and data extracted during intrusive investigative works (including trial pitting, window sampling, rotary drilling and cable percussive borings).
• Regular visits to a number of sites to monitor borehole gas emissions and assess potential HSE issues, which required effective organisation and often involved frequent contact with project clients and associated parties.
This role provided me with the opportunity to lead on-site operations and become the go-to-guy for any issues arising during works. This responsibility, in particular, provided a real sense of pride in the job because the final result and the efficiency of the works were down to effective planning and interaction with the on-site personnel.
Eductation
June 2013 to June 2014
University of Derby
MSc Applied Petroleum Geoscience (Expected Merit)
The key modules studied include:
• Petroleum Geology and Advanced Petroleum Geology (determination of petroleum system characteristics and reservoir modelling).
• Petroleum Techniques (petrophysical and core analysis and seismic interpretation).
• Geological and Commercial Risk (determination of reservoir volumetrics and economics).
• Subsurface Analysis and Basin Analysis (emphasis on basin modelling and sequence stratigraphy).
• A dissertation based on basin modelling and geochemical analyses.
Sep 2009 to Jul 2012
University of Derby
BSc Hons Geology with Environmental Hazards (2:1 Classification)
Key modules undertaken include:
• Sedimentology and Basin Analysis.
• Engineering Geology, Deformed Terrains.
• Global Tectonics and Geophysics.
• Industrial Applications of Geology and GIS.
Certification
• Fellow of the Geological Society with membership of the petroleum group.
• Member of the PESGB and the London Petrophysical Society.
Additional Information
IT software skills include a comprehensive knowledge of IHS Kingdom (seismic interpretation), Petrel (reservoir modelling) and Genesis (basin modelling).
The dissertation focuses on the petroleum prospectivity of four Meso-Tertiary rift basins within the East African Rift System. Thermal maturity models have been constructed to determine source rock richness, timings of generation and expulsion and the onset of initial transformation.
A cross-referencing of the models with geochemical data has been implemented to determine model viability; the results of which will be presented in a technical poster for inclusion at the PETEX event in November 2014.
