CSWIP 3.1 Welding Inspector

1. Monitor all aspects of the welding process before, during, after welding and repairs welding to ensure that the finished weldment is fit for purpose and complies with the stated requirements of that code or specification.

2. Ensuring that a Welding procedure is available, has been approved and is being employed in production.

3. Witnessing the preparation of test plates and destructive tests and verifying compliance with appropriate standards and specifications.

4. Verifying that adequate and valid welder approvals are available, and that only approved welders are used in production.

5. Verifying parent material against documentation and markings. And also Verification of correctness of welding consumables (electrodes, filler wires, consumable in¬serts, gases, fluxes etc.)

6. Verification that dimensions, fit-up and weld preparations are in accordance with specifications.

7. Verification that any required preheat is in accordance with the specified procedure & also surveillance during welding to verify compliance with specified procedures including any pre¬heat, interpass temperature control and post heat require¬ments. And verification, when required that post weld heat treat¬ment has been conducted in accordance with specification requirements.

8. Assistance and agreement with the preparation of Inspection and Test Plans (ITP’s).

9. Visual inspection and dimensional check of completed weldment against specification require¬ments and drawings.

10. The study and cognisance of NDT results on any welding work where using NDT methods such as liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, radiography or ultrasonic inspection then it is suggested that operator obtains certification in accordance with the related approval schemes.

11. Evaluation of and preparation of inspection reports for the employer or the client.

12. Maintain of records of inspections carried out.

13. Technically Sound in ASME Section VIII, ASME Section IX, ASME Section V, ASME Section II Part C, BS EN 15614, BS EN 287, AWS D1.1, AWS D1.3, AWS d1.4, API 5L 45th Edition, API 1104, API RP 5L3, API Q1, ASTM A370, etc.
