Professional Experience
I have worked on various power stations with power outputs ranging from 2000MW to 4788MW.
I have largely worked on boiler feed pumps and the plant thermal process. In addition, I have insight on main steam condensers, steam turbines, ID and FD fans, boilers, cooling towers, air cooled condensers, low and high pressure heaters. Furthermore I possess, amongst others, the following skills; communication skills, SolidWorks (CAD&CFD), problem solving, leadership, MathCAD, Flownex, analytical skills, strategic planning skills, MS Powerpoint, MS Office, MS Excel, MS Project, coaching, mechanical engineering, troubleshooting, training & development, and research.
Amongst others, I have following experience:
• Lead investigations on Unit trips and reduce reoccurrences.
• Apply and comply to Pressure Equipment Regulations and other codes such as, SANS347, EN10204, ISO 5199, ISO9000, ISO9001, ISO816 and ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes.
• Liaise and coordinate construction and commissioning activities between contractors such as General Electric (formerly Alstom) and Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Africa.
• Perform Kraftwerk-Kennzeichen-System (KKS) and labelling inspections.
• Conduct quality documentation reviews ensuring compliance to relevant erection and commissioning procedures.
• Provide technical assurance during construction by conducting plant walk downs to ensure that the final end-of -construction walk down does not produce punch list items.
• Review and approve data-books prior to the commissioning of the plant or system and sign off mechanical completion certificates.
• Sign or verify that the “as-build” plant conforms to the detail design and ensure the turbine plant related systems are ready for commissioning.
• Perform flushing of the low pressure condensate system and optimization of the turbine plant.
• Perform cold commissioning where all electrical and mechanical checks can be done prior to the introduction of energy to the system or equipment.
• Perform hot commissioning post the safety clearance of the system (including air cooled condenser and boiler) using relevant required commissioning procedures, check sheets, operating procedures and test result sheets.
• Perform high temperature flow measurements using ultrasonic flow meter.
• Coordinate and calculate turbine plant acceptance and capability tests.
