Dr Mohieldin Meets with GAFI, SEZONE Leaderships

The Minister of Investment, Dr. Mahmoud Mohieldin, met with the leaders of the General Authority for Investment (GAFI) and the General Authority of the North-West Suez Gulf Economic Zone (SEZONE).

The meeting discussed indicators and trends of investment in the third quarter of the current fiscal year, the jobs provided, and the investments injected into various sectors.

The meeting also reviewed the activity of the SEZONE General Authority and investment opportunities in the zone, including the projects proposed by Singapore, China, India, Korea and Spain, in the areas of integrated development, infrastructure and productive projects.

In the context of improving GAFI's performance and support decentralization, Dr. Mohieldin called for developing the guidelines for company startup and making them available to all bodies concerned nationwide and posting them on the associated websites.

He also followed the steps taken to streamline the procedures of establishing and modernizing free zones and to develop their services, in coordination with the provinces where they are.

Dr. Mohieldin also discussed the position of existing and proposed projects in a number of provinces.

GAFI's role in supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in collaboration with the bodies concerned was also reviewed.

The meeting followed up the outcome of the 3rd COMESA Investment Forum, held in Sharm el-Sheikh within the framework of cooperation with African countries to increase investments.

The meeting was attended by GAFI Chairman, Osama Saleh, GAFI deputy chairpersons, Abdel Moneim el-Alfi, Nivin el-Shafei and Wafaa Sobhi, the Head of SEZONE General Authority, Ahmed Amin, and a number of senior officials at the Ministry of Investment.
