Shell Purchase Its First LNG Shipment From Egypt

Shell Gas and Power has purchased its first LNG shipment from the gas liquefaction plant in Idku. Shell’s LNG tanker Granatina carried the 138,000 square cubic meter shipment, which is bound to the United States. This transaction demonstrates the strength of the partnership between Shell and the Egyptian oil and gas sector and indicates Shell’s interest in the LNG field in Egypt. Egypt is strategically located close to the company’s traditional markets in Europe and the US.

Egypt is set to become a major global player in the LNG market. The creation of the Idku and Damietta gas liquefaction plants in record time and according to international standards has strategically positioned Egypt on the global map of LNG and paved the way for attracting foreign investments.

“Shell is interested in increasing cooperation with Egypt in the LNG sector. As the main global player in this field, Shell cannot ignore the available LNG opportunities in Egypt,” said Iman Hill, the chairwoman of Shell Companies in Egypt.

“I’m pleased with this cooperation with Shell as it reflects the level of international confidence in Egypt’s LNG sector. It will certainly encourage other international players to take similar interest,” said Engineer Ibrahim Ahmed, Vice Chairman of EGAS.
