Green Globe, the only global environmental certification programme for travel and tourism, has joined forces with Shell Gas (LPG) to endorse the environmental benefits of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for the hotel industry.
Launched last month at the London Wetlands Centre, the new partnership will help hotels and resorts become more aware of the environmental and financial advantages of LPG – a clean burning, low emissions fuel. Hotels traditionally use LPG for heating and cooking, although it can also meet many of their other energy requirements in applications such as laundry dryers, emergency generators, incinerators, air conditioners and utility carts. Speaking at the launch of the partnership, Sir Frank Moore, Chairman of Green Globe Asia Pacific, welcomed Shell as a major corporate partner. He said: "We are delighted at the prospect of working with Shell to introduce our customers to improved environmental products and services. For most tourism businesses, energy costs represent a substantial proportion of the operating expenses. Ways to reduce energy costs and the environmental impact of their operations are key goals of our customers." Shell has demonstrated that it is well placed to become a Green Globe corporate partner. In the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, Shell was rated as the top company in the energy sector for 2001 and 2002 years and its sustainable development reporting is described as "best in class". As a leading global marketer of LPG, Shell Gas (LPG) supplies the hotel sector in more than 50 countries. Kees Dubbelboer, Vice President of Shell Gas (LPG), said: "We are committed to delivering the best possible service to our hotel customers. A key element of our offer is helping them to secure energy-related performance improvements, and for many the environment is the first area to be addressed. "Our customers are already benefiting from the improved air quality associated with LPG and we are convinced that the Green Globe programme will enable them to achieve a wide range of environmental improvements across their operations." As the liquefied petroleum gas business of the Royal Dutch/Shell Group of Companies, Shell Gas (LPG) shares the Shell Group's belief that a commitment to sustainable development is key to its long-term business success. Shell Gas (LPG) ensures that this commitment is embedded throughout its business and in the products and services delivered to 40 million customers worldwide. |
