Siemens Power Generation (PG) will build the first private gas turbine power plant in Saudi Arabia. The order for construction and commissioning of the Al Jubail plant is valued at approximately US Dollar 145 million. The power plant will be located on the Arabian Gulf approximately 100 kilometers north of Dammam. It will have a capacity of 260 megawatts and produce more than 500 tons of steam per hour. The plant is scheduled to be completed by May 2005.
The Al Jubail power plant will be owned by Jubail Energy Company of Saudi Arabia and will provide power for the petrochemical company SADAF. The gas-fired plant will be equipped with two Siemens 501D gas turbines, which will be manufactured at the company's plant in Hamilton, Canada. In additition, the two generators will come from Siemens' manufacturing plant in Erfurt, Germany. The company will also supply the Teleperm XP instrumentation and controls equipment and the two heat-recovery steam generators. The power plant unit will be fired exclusively with gas. The power generated in Al Jubail will be purchased by SADAF. With this order in Saudi Arabia and another recent power plant order in Kuwait, Siemens PG is further expanding its strong position in the Gulf region. |
