Prime Minister Awn Khasawneh said that Jordan's economy was not in a very bad shape. In reply to comments made by lawmakers on the budget draft law during a session for the Lower House of Parliament that was chaired by its speaker Abdul Karim Dughmi, Khasawneh said the budget which has been debated over the past three days is the most austerity budget in the history of Jordan. He said that Jordan's economy is not in a very bad shape as indebtedness still constitutes 65 percent of the Gross Domestic Product and reserves of the Central Bank of Jordan are still satisfactory.
The premier hailed the support provided by Arab countries as well as the European Union to the Kingdom, adding that the EU pledged to provide the Kingdom with $3 billion over the next three years. He stressed the need to develop the economy through attracting more investments and cut spending, adding that this is the responsibility not only the government but also all Jordanians |
