Egypt, Saudi Arabia Agree on Reviving Land Bridge Project

The Egyptian and Saudi transport ministries have agreed to revive a proposed land bridge project that would link the two countries, a source at the Saudi transport ministry said. The two sides are scheduled to hold fresh talks within the coming few weeks to set up the guidelines for the project, which is planned to be implemented by mid-2013, the source said in press statements.

They agreed that the newly constructed bridge will be named after Saudi King Abdullah bin Abdel-Aziz, the source said. The initial cost of the 50-kilometer-long bridge to pass over the Red Sea is estimated at USD 3 billion, the source added.
