The technical teams of the International Monetary Fund IMF stated on 19/3/2012 discussing the details of Egypt's economic reform program with Egyptian officials.The Mission of IMF senior officials is expected in Cairo next week for completion of some technical points with the Egyptian side and the results of consultations will be referred to the IMF council of managing directors at the end of talks.
Massoud Ahmed, the head of the Middle East department at the IMF who is also head of the IMF mission to Egypt said that the IMF mission is having talks with the Egyptian government on the details of the proposed economic reform by the Egyptian government to receive financial support of the IMF. This is sort of progress in this going on operation but still there are other stages connected with the discussions over this issue, Massoud said. He affirmed we are making progress but still we did not reach the completion of talks.
There are three axes for the work of the IMF mission to make sure that the Egyptian reform program would achieve its targets in restoring the confidence of investors in the Egyptian economy, protecting the most needy families, and restoration of economic stability, the targets IMF experts are analyzing at present. The second axis is that there is the society consent on the orientations of the political command concerning the reform program. The third axis is to muster financial support to the reform program in order to perform its protective role for the Egyptian economy in the transitional stage. He affirmed that the IMF would provide part of the funds needed by the Egyptian economy and that it will help Egypt to receive financial support from friendly countries, financial establishments and the other donor countries.
