Minister of Electricity and Energy Dr. Hassan Younis decided to earmark five power generating projects for the private sector to add 6800 Megawatt to the national power grid with EGP 50 billion investments, in the five year plan 2012 / 2017.
This will make the private sector a basic partner in carrying out the five year plan. Minister Younis said the five projects included power generating stations west of Damietta with a capacity of 1500 megawatt, steam station of Allayat with the capacity of 1950 megawatt, Qena with 1300 megawatt, Safaga 1300 megawatt, Day Root of Al Beheira governorate 750 megawatt. This would end up with total 6500 megawatt, constituting half of the capacities targeted in the five year plan 2012/2017.
