Prime Minister, Dr. Kamal Al-Ganzoury, held meeting to discuss development of the Egyptian ports, in attendance of Minster of Public Business Sector, General Secretary of the Cabinet of Ministers, Head of General Authority for Investments and Free Zone, and Head of Damietta Port.
The Minister of Transport stated that the meeting discussed development of the Egyptian ports, and means of increasing investments volume, stating that the 2nd phase of the container terminals station at East Port-Said Port will be inaugurated by investments EGP 3 billion with capacity 3 million containers so that total capacity of the port would reach 7 million containers. It was agreed on establishing new phase for the container area with total capacity 4 million containers, and the total capacity will be increased over 4 years to reach 11 million containers. Dr. Al-Ganzoury called for the necessity of increasing investments in the Egyptian ports and developing them using recent technological systems especially within the leap witnessing currently in Egyptian ports. Port-Said port ranked the 3rd position concerning containers trading volume at the Mediterranean Basin countries. The Minister of Transport reviewed the tunnel project extending below Suez Canal, south Port-Said, and it will help facilitating transport movement of passengers and goods between East Port-Said Port and other Egyptian ports. The Ministry of Transport will sign a franchise contract for establishment of greater goods station in Al-Adebyia Port with investments EGP 1.5 billion. The Minister of Public Business Sector stated that a report was reviewed on the future investments to be implemented by Alexandria, Port-Said, and Damietta containers. The station existed in Damietta Port will be developed and quays will be deepened. The meeting also reviewed the development of quay no. 100 in Al-Dekhlyia Port with investments amounting to EGP 1.5 billion, and the second phase of the container trading terminal in East Port-Said reach 600,000 m and quay length 1200 m. |
