The Department of Economic Development in Abu Dhabi (DED) is set to organize at its headquarters a workshop titled "Standardization and Metrology for the Development of Exports" with the participation of the Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA) and Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council (QCC) and a number of concerned government entities and around 50 officials representing a number of companies and factories operating in Abu Dhabi.
The workshop will be opened by a speech of Mohammed Omar Abdullah, Undersecretary of DED highlighting the efforts of the DED in bringing about requested changes in the overall structure of the Emirate's economy, most notably the development of national exports in cooperation with its strategic partners from government agencies and the public and private sectors. Engineer Mohammed Saleh Badri, Director General of Emirates Authority for Standardization and Metrology (ESMA), will give a speech during the opening of the workshop dealing with the Authority's efforts in the preparation and issuance of Emirati standards as well as the adoption of international standards in all sectors to contribute to the protection of consumers, environment and markets and strengthening the national economy. Hussain Salem Al Katheeri, Secretary General of Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council will highlight the Council's efforts in promoting the continuous development of the infrastructure for quality procedures and developing the capacity of conformity assessment bodies and mechanisms of market survey center focusing on developing programs consistent with the products, materials and systems in cooperation with regulators and censorship entities. This is the third workshop of its kind organized by Foreign Trade Support and Export Division in the International Economic Relations Sector, and it aims at raising awareness of the importance of increasing exports and developing of companies and factories operating in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It also comes as part of the efforts of the DED to underpin its role in achieving Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030, which aims to increase non-oil exports to 11% of the total GDP of the Emirate, as it works also to achieve this by Law No. 2 of 2009, which authorized DED to develop and implement initiatives that will increase exports either through exporting companies currently operating in Abu Dhabi or the ones expected to operate in that field in the future in Abu Dhabi. |
