Egypt is a Strategic Gateway for Turkey's Trade

No one can deny the interest of Turkey in the development of the situation in Egypt since the revolution of January 25 and the announcement of Turks officials that Turkey support Egyptian government and people. Which is confirmed by Ambassador “Abdel Rahman Salah al-Din”, Egypt's ambassador in “Ankara” in an exclusive statement, pointing out that statements of officials of the Turks reflect Turkey's support to Egypt during the transition to democracy and confirmation of Turkey to the belief in the ability of Egypt to get over the election of a new president to Egypt by the will of a popular real.

He assure that the trade relations between the two countries witnessed increasing growth, especially during the past few years, including shares in the promotion of trade as the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Turkey in 2011 about $ 4.1 billion, and said that Turkish investments during the current year amounted to $ 1.2 billion through 80 factories, The Turkish company operating in Egypt is expected to reach the size of Turkish investments in two years to $ 5 billion.

He adds that there is a vital project connecting the two countries at the present time which is the project of shipping line by system of “RORO” between the Turkish port “Mersin” and the Egyptian ports of Alexandria and Port Said, which will contribute to the doubling of trade volume, as well as Turkish investments in Egypt during the previous five years, especially after the activation of the free trade agreement between the two countries in 2007, is expected to reach the total volume of trade between the two countries to $ 10 billion in 2015, in addition to the desire of Turkey to ensure the transfer of trade to the Gulf States and West and Central Africa.

The Ambassador pointed to this shipping line assure the strategic importance of Egypt on the map of international trade and logistics, this project also represents a strategic importance for Turkey, especially in the current period with the continuation of the Syrian crisis and stop the Turkish truck traffic through Syrian territory.
