The number of licensed vehicles in the country by the end of 2011 reached 6.37 million, marking 8.9% increase above its level a year ago put then at 5.85 million. This was reported in the media quoting General Abu Bakr El Gendi, Chairman of CAPMAS - Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics indicating that first ranking were the urban governorates with 2.76 million vehicles representing 43.4% of total followed by Lower Egypt Governorates with 1.87 million vehicles representing 29.4% of total and by Upper Egypt Governorates with 1.55 million vehicles representing 24.2% of total. Fourth ranking were the Boarders Governorates with 188,000 vehicles.
The Executive revealed that Cairo Governorate ranked first with 2.05 million vehicles or 32.2% of total followed by Giza Governorate with 0.7 million vehicles and by Alexandria with 0.54 million. The executive further revealed that total licensed buses as at the same date reached 110,000 marking 5.8% increase above their level by the end of 2010 put then at 104,000 buses. As to licensed trucks, semi trucks and pickups as at the same date, they reached 907,000 marking 4.7% increase above their level by the end of 2010 put then at 866,000. |
