Meeting on EMISAL Company in Egypt

Prime Minister, Dr. Kamal Al-Ganzoury, held meeting on the Egyptian Company for Minerals and Salts “EMISAL”, in attendance of Ministers of Planning, Electricity, Petroleum, and Environment, as well as Governor of North Sinai, Head of the Industrial Development Authority, and Head of EMISAL Co.

The Minister of Environment stated that the meeting discussed the project provided by EMISAL on establishment of Sinai Co. for Salts and Minerals in North Sinai for producing sodium carbonate. Dr. Al-Ganzoury called for the necessity of studying the environmental dimension of the project, to make sure it has not affection no people’s health along to allocating 10% of the project’s profits for establishment of services project including hospitals, schools and others. The project was provided since previous periods on Sinai development within efforts carried by the government to develop Sinai. The project will save foreign currency and will help us export salts instead of importing them. The ministry gave primary approval on the project since 2009, where the company shall studies the environmental situation.

North Sinai Governor stated that the project will be implemented in Al-Abd Well at the north industrial zone on 400,000 m2, confirming the provision of infrastructure, electricity, gas, and water treatment station therein. He added that there are factors intervening such industry such as the factory’s near location to salts near Al-Bordweil Lake which provide 1.5 million m2 of salts required, as well as provision of limestone. The governor stressed that the project will provide 3000 direct jobs, and 10,000 indirect ones. Dr. Al-Ganzoury approved allocation of 10% of the company for establishment of services projects of people therein, as well as establishment of housing community for employees, while consumption surplus will be exported.

EMISAL Head stated that the company’s investments reach USD 300 million, and the project was provided to investors as being a national project for Sinai development which produce more than 300,000 tons of sodium carbonate. Head of Sinai Development Agency expressed his hope that the project would contribute in the supplementary projects, soap industry and would achieve great production on Sinai land.

The Minister of Planning said that all Egyptians shall respect the Egyptian judiciary rules, and the former president was tried in front of the honest and fair Egyptian judiciary, and former president is the first to be judged before his country’s judiciary compared to other presidents. She asked all people to stop repeating words about evidences being hidden by the state supervisory agencies, confirming that we live in a law state and we shall all respect rules. The Minister stated that the former president is being tried in certain case and has no relation to the smuggled money return from abroad. The Minister denied rumors about benzene crisis, where large quantities were pushed since days enough for 10 days, and stations broke the law are closed for 3 months. She also denied rumors about cancelation of the gas cylinders distribution via coupons and it is not postponed.
