His Majesty King Abdullah II held talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on ways to cement Jordanian-Russian relations and latest developments in the Middle East. King Abdullah and Putin stressed keenness to boost bilateral ties in various domains, including politics, economy, agricultural, tourism, energy and transport. During the talks held over a lunch banquet hosted in honor of Putin, the King highlighted available investments opportunities in Jordan and prospects for launching Russian private sector ventures in the Kingdom.
Putin said Jordan is an important partner to Russia, expressing his country's keenness to strike closer economic ties with Jordan. On peacemaking efforts, the two leaders stressed the need for bringing about comprehensive peace in the region according to the two-state formula. Speaking on Syria, King Abdullah renewed his support for finding a political solution to the ongoing crisis in a manner that preserves Syria's unity, stability in order to put an end to the bloodshed. Putin said: "Our meeting today is an opportunity to discuss the Middle East and hot issue in the region." He commended Jordan's regional and international stances, haling the King's wise vision in addressing various challenges facing the region. The King said in remarks before the plenary session that the opening of a Russian pilgrims' house in the Baptism site in the Jordan Valley will boost bilateral cooperation in various fields. The Russian President thanked the King and Jordan for allocating a plot for land to build the House. The talks were attended by top officials from both sides.
