The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) has participated in a meeting of telecommunications governmental entities from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries who held discussion with a delegation from the EU on a number of issues of mutual interest and promoting cooperation between GCC and EU. The meeting took place at the European Commission building in the Belgian capital of Brussels in June 2012. The UAE was represented by a delegation headed by Eng. Saif Bin Ghelaita, Director of Technologies '&' Standards at the TRA and included TRA officials Eng. Nasser bin Hammad, Senior Manager of International Affairs and Eng. Mohammad Al Khamis, Manager of ICT Planning.
Commenting on the meeting, Mohamed Nasser Al Ghanim, TRA Director General said: "Our participation in the meeting is a direct implementation of the decision made in February at the telecommunication legislation and regulation committee meeting held in the GCC General Secretariat to direct efforts to promote cooperation with EU countries that have expressed readiness to provide consultation and share experiences in the field of information and communication technology (ICT) contributing to the development of ICT sectors in GCC countries." Bin Ghelaita commented: "Our meeting with the EU on the ICT sector is in line with the continuous cooperation between the two sides. The topics we discussed were very beneficial to us in terms of exploring the latest developments in the EU with regard to regulations, legislations, and the role of governments, identifying the best ways to benefit from the EU experience in enhancing the mechanism of the ICT sectors in our countries, and promoting competition in those sectors to elevate the level of services. |
