L.E. 600 million Egyptian Qatari project was launched to implement a beat sugar factory in Port Said on 80 feddans land of 400,000 tons annual design capacity. That was announced by General Ismail AL Nagdy, Head of the IDA - Industrial Development Authority, indicating that IDA holds 33 % equity share in the project with the remaining 67 % held by Egyptian and Qatari investors. The Executive stressed the fact that Egypt now imports annually 800,000 tons of sugar to cover the consumption gap with local production now put at 2 million tons.
